Better than the Weekend launched on July 13, 2016 by founder and editor-in-chief Justin Adam Brown. In a two-room office space with no windows, Justin and a group of college interns created a site in hopes of creating a platform for people to escape the Monday to Friday weekday grind. After spending five years in print journalism, Justin wanted to create a platform that didn’t pride itself on being the self-proclaimed Top, No. 1, or Leading anything, as news organizations often do. Instead of placing the platform above the readers, Justin wanted to connect with the readers and share a space where everybody was united on the same level.
Justin launched his career with TV production internships at E! Entertainment and Jimmy Kimmel Live. He was an on-air student correspondent for mtvU, cast member on ABC’s reality competition series “I Survived A Japanese Game Show,” and on-air correspondent on WBRE-TV’s “PA Live!” in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, before becoming an award-winning columnist and entertainment reporter in print. He has interviewed celebrities such as Adam Levine, Chelsea Handler, Maury Povich, Jerry Springer, Steve-O, Pete Wentz, Wayne Newton, The Long Island Medium and more.
After several viral stories circulated following the launch of Better than the Weekend, Justin took a hiatus from the site to restructure for a bigger, bolder future with the site. He relocated to a storefront HQ in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, redesigned the site and refocused the content that would be featured.
Better than the Weekend’s mission is to inform readers on what’s going down in the world while empowering them to live their best week. Unlike most news outlets, Better than the Weekend is a community of people just trying to survive the week.
